The department has two laboratories well equipped with modern instruments, computer application laboratory with bioinformatics facility, ICT- enabled classrooms and a smart classroom cum seminar hall. There is a departmental library with adequate number of textbooks, reference books and e-resource facility. Besides, there is also a departmental museum (with a collection of orchid germplasm and a collection of specimens with botanical importance including indigenous rice varieties, bamboo species etc.,). Department also has a well-maintained tissue culture laboratory where a Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) sponsored major project has recently been completed.
A medicinal garden, Keshab Ram Deka Herbal Medicinal garden, has been established by the department in the year 2021 with the aim to create awareness among the students about our indigenous valuable medicinal plant resources.
Activities: The department regularly conducts field studies, institutional visits, seminars, invited talks, and hands-on training programs. Since 2010, the department has been celebrating the World Environment Day.
Students of the department have been securing first class in the final examinations since 1996. Every year students gets admitted to different renowned institutions for higher education securing top positions in the entrance examinations. Alumni of the department have placed in various colleges as faculty and also in different posts at organizations like ICAR, Indian Navy, and Assam Forest Department, Assam Police, etc. Students of the department have also cleared the JAM/NET/SLET examination and are engaged in research work at various organizations.
